R1 Ribbon - Discontinued
The sE R1 Ribbon microphone has been discontinued.
It's single 'Figure of 8' polar pattern was derived from an incredibly fine 1.8 micron Aluminium membrane. As such the R1 had a higher-than-normal frequency roll-off (at around 7KHz), and greater sensitivity, producing a more open and natural sound than you'd expect from a ribbon mic.
The passive R1 Ribbon is discontinued but if you find one or a pair for sale, you will find the sE Electronics R1 Ribbon is ideally suited to most recording applications including electric guitar cabs, overhead drum micing, recording brass and woodwind instruments, strings and for commercial broadcast and voice-over. The R1 was packaged in a tough, aluminium flightcase and comes complete with shockmount. The sE R1 large ribbon mic was $999 at launch in 2006
sE Ribbon microphone technology has moved on since 2006. Try the sE Passive Voodoo VR1 ribbon mic as this astonishing passive ribbon mic extends to 18KHz. Alternatively, consider the Voodoo VR2 Active Ribbon microphone.
