Multi-Pattern sE Electronics and sE Rupert Neve Microphones

Depending on the design, microphones that offer multiple polar patterns either use interchangeable capsules, such as the sE RN17 and sE4 pencil mics, or a specially designed dual-diaphragm capsule that can recreate all the polar patterns by means of electrical switching from the PCB, such as the sE4400a and the sE2200a II. The number of patterns is simply determined by the complexity of the PCB design; most multi-pattern mics will have at least 3 polar patterns (Cardioid, Omni and Figure 8), more complex designs have up to 9 variations such as the sE Z5600a II and give ultimate flexibility of use.
