Australian music magazine MIXDOWN just did a round-up review of all three sE / Rupert Neve Signature Series microphones, and the results are in. Here are a few quotes, with a link to the full review at the bottom!
“Recording on the cardioid setting, the RNT is forward and transparent. Voices are articulate and crystal clear, with a nice proximity effect when positioned closer to the speaker or singer.”
“Laser-like focus and great side rejection…it’s perfect as a microphone for rooms when recording instruments or as a direct mic on anything you can throw at it (figuratively, of course. The RN17 is robust, but please don’t throw anything at it, nor throw it around a room).”
“What I love most about the RNR1 is that it still sounds like a ribbon mic. The high frequency response is detailed and articulate, but the overall sound still feels smooth and treated like any other ribbon microphone would.”
sE Electronics and Rupert Neve Designs Announce The RNT, A New Flagship Multi-Pattern Tube Condenser
sE Electronics is extremely proud to announce the RNT, a premium large-diaphragm multi-pattern tube condenser microphone created in collaboration with Rupert Neve Designs. “All in all, the RNT brings the larger-than-life sounds of classic tube mics into the modern age with greater depth and clarity than ever before.”
The RNT is the third microphone in the collaboration between sE Electronics and Rupert Neve Designs, founded by the legendary audio designer Mr. Rupert Neve. “Much like the RNR1 Active Ribbon and RN17 Small-Diaphragm Condenser, the RNT is something truly special, developed over several years of careful listening and measurement by Mr. Rupert Neve, Mr. Siwei Zou, and the engineering teams from both companies.”
“The partnership between sE Electronics and Rupert Neve Designs is an extension of the great friendship between the two founders. This elegantly different tube microphone design was one of the first concepts they originally discussed long ago - and after many years in development, we are exceptionally proud to see it brought to life.”
This new flagship tube microphone features “the very finest handcrafted capsule sE has ever developed”, nine switchable polar patterns, two custom Rupert Neve Designs output transformers, an ECC82 tube gain stage in the microphone, and a second gain stage in the floor box using the same high-performance op-amps as those found in Rupert Neve Designs’ flagship 5088 console.
It also features fully discrete class-A electronics throughout, three switchable gain levels, and two switchable low-cut filters. The RNT ships standard with a high-end custom shock mount, a wooden microphone box, and a robust flight case.
