"How much difference can a microphone make in the sound of your kick drum? You might be surprised.”

The great Lynn Fuston of Sweetwater Sound published a phenomenal shootout on their website this week, with sound samples of 11 kick drum mics - “some old standards that I’ve used throughout my career and some newcomers” - and the V KICK is in the lineup!

The V KICK’s four switchable tonalities.

The V KICK’s four switchable tonalities.

Note: Even though the V KICK has four switchable tonalities to achieve four completely different kick drum sounds (which you can hear on the product page), only one of the V KICK’s four patterns could be used for the shootout. After all, they had to keep the comparison as fair as possible… ;)

Go listen to the shootout, check out the awesome methodology behind it (lasers!), and in Lynn’s words, remember to “put on your best headphones or crank up your monitors”!
